Sister Ellen Smith, daughter of the late John Wesley Knox, Sr. and Wilhemina Knox, was born December 28, 1954 in Lugoff, South Carolina. She entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.
Sister Smith received her education in the public schools of Kershaw County. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, was converted, baptized, and united her membership with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Lugoff, South Carolina. She was a faithful member who supported her church through serving on the Usher Ministry for many years and served as Vice President of the Pulpit Aid Ministry. She also loved to sang songs of praises and worship during Sunday service.
She was a beautiful woman with a kind and sweet spirit. She had a strong commitment to her husband and family.
She was preceded in death by three siblings, John Wesley Knox, Jr., Lizzie Mae Salmond and Larry Lyonne Knox.
She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories, her husband, Arthur Smith of Camden, SC, one son, Corey Green of Lugoff, SC , three step-children Amelia Brown and Brian Brown of Camden, SC and Duncan Brown of Augusta, GA; two grandchildren, MiKayla Counts of Columbia, SC and Christian Massey of New York; four sisters, Edna Grant of Lugoff, SC, Ida Knox of Camden, SC, Ernestine (Harry) Knox of Rembert, SC and Ruby Cantey of Goose Creek, SC; Two brothers, Richard Knox of Lugoff, SC, and James (Brenda) Knox of Philadelphia, PA ; Three sister in laws; Kathaleen (Charles)Thompson of Camden, SC, Carolyn Shannon of Ft. Washington, MD and Corrine Russell of Detroit, MI; a very special cousin, Ruth Anderson and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Mask and Social Distancing will be observed. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 Friday at the funeral home.
