It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Mrs. Ella Mae Loyd who entered into rest April 29, 2023.
Ella Mae Loyd was born June 6, 1944 in Boykin, South Carolina. She was the eighth child of twelve born to the late Albert and Mamie Johnson.
She received her early religious training at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. She attended Jackson High School in Kershaw County and was a graduate in the Class of 1963. She worked in education with preschoolers for over 25 years. After which she went to Beauty School and received her degree in Cosmetology. She then worked as a Direct Support Professional with children and adults with disabilities.
Ella was a God-fearing, family-oriented woman. She also had a quick, no filter, and took no mess. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and cooking. The Greater Faith and Joy Tabernacle was a senior program she loved to go to. The friendships she made there held a special place in her heart.
Ella married the late Jeff Loyd and they shared a wonderful union for over 42 years. They had 3 sons, Melvin (late), Mark (Nikki), and Jeff III of Chicago, IL. Her memory will live on with her grandchildren: Janean, Mahseyo, Ahmad, Maisa, Skye, and Serenah. In addition, she has two great grandchildren: Isaiah and Elijah.
She is preceeded in death by her beloved husband Jeff Loyd, Jr, her son Melvin James Loyd, her brothers: Eugene Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Albert Johnson Jr, Rev. Willie Johnson, Rev. George Johnson, Rev. Samuel Johnson, and sisters: Aileen Davis, Alma Alexander, and Katie Murphy.
Her sisters Blanche McClendon and Rev. Mamie (Carnell) Adamson will cherish her memory along with all of her many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in law, cousins, many friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 6, 2023 at St. Matthew Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles C. Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. A Wake Service will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
