Without a whimper, sigh or moan but quietly and serenely, Mr. Marcus Eugene Spann stepped briskly and calmly aboard the Old Ship of Zion on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the KershawHealth.
On March 19, 1951 in Kershaw County, God gave the late Harman Spann, Sr. and Mary Bell Spann Hayward a bundle of Joy and love a baby boy they named Marcus Eugene, affectionally known as "SMILEY".
"Smiley" received his early religious training at St. John Baptist Church and as years passed he attended Sweet Home Baptist Church occasionally. "Smiley" enjoyed making people laugh, doing yard work and just simply enjoyed life.
Rejoicing in his memory but mourning their loss are two sisters, Mrs. Emma (Vincent) Moses, of Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Eva (John) Ward of Camden, SC; five brothers, Mr. Elmore Spann of North Carolina, Mr. Bryant K. Hayward of Delaware, Mr. Isaiah Hayward of Camden, SC, Mr. Ernest (Ida) Hayward of Bethune, SC and Mr. Richard Hayward of Trenton, NJ; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Spann of Lugoff, SC; one adopted brother, Mr. Troy Williams of New York; two aunts Mrs. Earlene Williams of New York, Mrs. Ollie Rubinstein of Camden, SC; one uncle, Mr. Moses Johnson of Camden; a special niece, Ms. Chelsea Ward; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, three brothers, Mr. Harman Spann, Jr., Mr. Henry L. Spann, and Mr. Jerry Hayward, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lela Bell Hayward.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Camden. Interment will follow at the St. John Baptist Church Cemetery (Spring Hill Rd.) The body will be placed in the church for viewing one hour prior to the service. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
