Ebony Nicola Gumbs

On August 21, 2026, the world lost a beautiful soul when Ebony Nicola “Nicky” Gumbs, age 50, transitioned from this life. Born on March 2, 1976, in Harlem, New York, Ebony was the beloved daughter of Patricia Johnson and James Gumbs. To know Nicky was to know someone who was truly one of a kind. She was funny, loving, strong, outspoken, inspirational, and unapologetically herself. Nicky had a personality that could fill a room. She could make you laugh when you needed it most, tell you exactly what was on her mind, and somehow turn an ordinary moment into a memory you would never forget.

Family was at the center of Nicky heart. She loved spending time with the people she loved most and creating memories that would last forever. Whether she was laughing, joking, recording videos, or simply enjoying time with her family, Nicky had a way of making every moment feel special. She also had a passion for creating content telling her story and making people laugh. Her videos, her humor, her expressions, and her personality allowed her to connect with people in a way that was uniquely Ebony. She didn't just create content-she created memories. She left behind pieces of herself that her loved ones will be able to return to whenever they need to hear her laugh, see her smile, or feel her presence.

Ebony leaves to cherish her memory her children, Erin, Esantae, Hope Gumbs, and Jashaun Huggins; her granddaughter, Elizah Wilson; her parents, Patricia Johnson and James Gumbs (Sharon Gumbs); her siblings, Maricia Johnson, James Gumbs jr, and Zhane Gumbs; her niece and nephew, Payton and Caylen Johnson; her son-in-love, Dajon. She also leaves behind her beloved grand pets, Marley, Uno, Cam, and Tank, who brought her countless moments of joy and companionship. She also leaves behind cousins who were much more than cousins-they were her sisters and brother Tammy, Kina, Lucy, Lisa and Curtis. Her special friends Ms. Joyce, Ms. Earnestine and Ms.Janet as well as the members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church-Kirkwood, will also forever cherish the memories they shared with her. Nicky’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her extended family, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Nicky's life cannot be measured simply by the years she lived, but by the lives she touched, the laughter she created, and the love she gave. Her family will miss the sound of her voice, her jokes, her opinions, her smile, and all the little things that made her Nicky. They will miss having her here to make memories with, but they will carry those memories with them for the rest of their lives. Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we celebrate the life she lived and the love she left behind. Her presence may be gone from this world, but the love she gave will never leave the hearts of those who knew her. Rest peacefully, Nicky. Your earthly story here may have come to an end, but your love, your laughter, and your beautiful spirit will live on forever.
