It is with deep sympathy that we announce the passing of Rev. Samuel Johnson of Camden. Rev. Johnson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Prisma Health Richland.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON was born in Boykin, South Carolina to the late Albert and Mamie Poque Johnson. Born from this union were 12 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Eugene Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Albert Johnson, Jr., and Reverend Willie Johnson; two sisters: Alene Davis and Alma Alexander.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON attended Jackson High School and Mather Academy in Camden, South Carolina
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON accepted Christ at an early age.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON relocated to Brooklyn, New York at an early age where he received a barber’s license, as well as, owned and operated his own barber shop.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON became a licensed Minister of the Church of God In Christ, Inc. in Brooklyn, New York in January of 1994. He was ordained as a Minister in October of 1996. He served for many years as a Minister at Peterson’s Temple in Brooklyn, New York where Elder Clearance Peterson was presiding.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON later relocated to Camden, South Carolina where he was reinstated as a member of the Mount Bethel Baptist Church. He then joined the pulpit staff as one of the Associate Ministers. He was also a member of the Boys to Men’s Ministry.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON had talent and enjoyed drawing, writing, and photography. This is shown by his numerous journals and photo albums. Most of all, he enjoyed teaching and preaching the word of God.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON departed this life on September 7, 2019 after a brief illness and entered eternal Heaven to be with the Lord.
REVEREND SAMUEL B. JOHNSON leaves to cherish his memory, five sons: Samuel Johnson, Jr. of Virginia, Craig Mercer and Pastor Ishmael Mercer, Solomon Belton all of Brooklyn, NY, Pastor Moses Belton of Texas, Hannibal Belton of Columbia, SC; four daughters: Attorney Susie Vernell Rivers of Brooklyn, NY, Gail Johnson of Albany, NY, Latoya D. Belton of Columbia, SC, Jeanette Johnson of Virginia, and Sheila Mercer of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four sisters: Ella Lloyd of Lugoff, SC, Blanche McClendon of Columbia, SC, Katie Murphy of Charleston, SC, and Reverend Mamie (Carnell, Jr.) Adamson of Lugoff, SC; one brother: Reverend George (Sallie) Johnson of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Rembert. Public viewing will held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Family and friends may call or visit the residence (1324 Old River Rd, Apt 1-D) beginning Tuesday, September 10 through Friday, September 13 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
