Gladys Lee Obituary

Job 22:26  For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Mrs. Gladys Greene-Lee of 1288 Collins Circle, Camden.

Gladys Greene-Lee was born to the late John Wesley, Sr. and Mary Alexander Greene on December 30, 1948 in Camden, South Carolina.  On November 20, 2019, God saw the road was getting rough, and the hill was hard to climb. God gently closed Glady’s loving eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Thine.”

Gladys graduated from Jackson High School in 1969.  She held various jobs throughout her career before retiring from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Columbia, SC.  She also took care of many children throughout the Camden area.

Gladys, as a young child, began her Christian journey at Emmanuel United Methodist Church.  Gladys served as a trustee and in other positions.  She was supportive in the church’s events.  She attended the SC United Methodist Conference and district meetings.  Gladys married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Lee.  Gladys Greene-Lee loved her family and family events.  The loves of Gladys’s life were her awesome daughters.  Her love for Monica and Nytisha was unmeasurable.  Whatever her daughters needed, Gladys supplied it if she could.  Gladys was blessed with one granddaughter, Kinslee Martin.  As she looked into Kinslee’s eyes for the first time, she said, “Thank you Jesus.”  Just as Gladys loved her daughters and granddaughter, she extended the same love to her family.

Gladys leaves cherished memories to her daughters: LaMonica Lee-Martin (Rodney) of Kennesaw, GA and Nytisha Lee-Wright (Khary) of Raleigh, NC; a granddaughter: Kinslee Martin of Kennesaw, GA; two sons of her heart: Marty Greene and Tremayne Greene of Camden, SC; five sisters: Mattie Greene-Allen and Joanne Greene-McEachern (Bill) of New York, NY, Sarah Stuckey, Addie Johnson, and Virginia Greene of Camden, SC; three brothers: John Wesley Greene, Jr. (Hattie), Perry Greene (Edith), and Henry Greene of Camden, SC; three Godchildren: Thomasena Johnson, Jonski Greene, and Dorshai Moore; she was “Nana” to Tiyanna Groom, John Dais, Jaamon Greene, Jaaron Greene, Iman Drakeford, Taniya Middleton, Iria Johnson, and Myla McClure.  Gladys was blessed with two best friends: Margaret Lopez and Jean Moses.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents: John Wesley, Sr. and Mary Alexander Greene; her husband: Joseph Lee; three sisters: Lula Mae McCombs, Alberta Allen, and Elizabeth Dow; and two brothers: James Greene and Charles Greene.
