Arlean Gary Patterson answered her Master’s Call and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at KershawHealth Medical Center, Camden, SC.  Arlean was born February 10, 1941 to the late Isaac Gary and the late Pirlean Lewis Gary.

Arlean accepted Christ at an early age and became a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Black River Rd.)

She was united in holy matrimony to the Rev., Dr. Lonnie Patterson, Jr. on January 19, 1960.  To this union, six children were born.

She was a homemaker and loved to cook. She was a “Mother” to many children in her neighborhood and surrounding communities.  She was the organizer of the Kingswood Community Singers and the Voices of Harmony.  She was a member of the Young Adult and Gospel Choirs of Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Black River Rd) and Sandhill Missionary Baptist Church.  To relax, she loved watching her Western Movies.  She loved by many and fed plenty.  She enjoyed talking on the phone and encouraging people.  Arlean loved her Adopted Family and many loving friends.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her loving husband of 57 years, Rev., Dr. Lonnie Patterson, Jr. of Camden, SC; six children: Harry Patterson of Camden, SC, Lionel Patterson (Erica) of Camden, SC, Wayne Patterson (Beverly) of Lexington, VA, Gail Brown (Woodrow) of Lugoff, SC, Michael Patterson (Marie) of New Haven, CT,  and Pirlean Lisa McCoy (Reginald) of Camden, SC; two brothers: Rev. John Gary (Corrie) of Camden, SC and Rev. Rickey Gary (Shirley) of New Haven, CT; one sister: Jannie Gary Tillman of Camden, SC; two brothers – in – law: Dea. James G. Patterson (Dorothy) and John H. Patterson (Ann), both of Camden, SC; Three sisters – in – law: Sallie Patterson and Shirley Mills (Sidney), both of Camden, SC and Alice Anderson (Eddie) of Murfreesboro, TN; her extended family: Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Barbara) James of Camden, SC, Geri James Weinbaum (Dan) of Orlando, FL and Traci James Pavel (Lee) of Ft. Myers, FL.  She was blessed to have 34 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Arlean was preceded in death by three brothers: Willie Gary, Izell Gary, and Eugene Gary; one brother – in – law: Wallace Gary; her loving Mother and Father – in – law, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie (Alice) Patterson, Sr.; three grandchildren; Thomas Keron Alexander, Wesley Smith, and JaMari (Doodie) Patterson.  She was also preceded in death by Momma Lucille Chestnut Gary.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Black River Rd).  The body will be placed in the church for viewing one hour prior to the service.  Public viewing will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
